Premium Dried Lavender Powder. This is Lavandula angustifolia syn. Lavandula officinale. In medieval times herbalists used lavender to prevent head lice and as a repellent, the flowers were tied into small bundles and placed into pillows or linens to make them smell pleasant and keep bugs and pests away. The Elizabethans used lavender for sweetening washing water and disguising foul smells. During the Black Death (Plague) in 1665, lavender was hung in bunches, so its fragrance would mask the smell of death and decay. Lavender flowers can also be added to bath tea blends, facial scrubs, soaps, face masks, foot powders and bath salts.

However, the powdered form presents entirely new possibilities. Mixed into a paste with a small amount of flour and water, for instance, powdered lavender can be used to make beads for jewellery. Lavender powder can also be combined with baking soda and used to freshen carpets or to make a non-abrasive cleanser. Of course, the powder can also be encapsulated or tinctured. Note, though, that powdered lavender flower is greenish in colour, not purple. The herb is also a natural insect repellent.
