Use the smoke to “wash” persons, property or spaces. Use a shell or pottery to catch the ashes. Do not put them in the rubbish bin. Honour them by returning the ashes to the earth. To practice smudging at home, it’s important to be respectful and learn how to handle the herbs according to traditional protocols. Smudging info is included with delivery.
The cool, clean smell of peppermint is distilled from the leaves and top of the herb and used in Smudging Rituals. Wild Ginger, Officially known as Asarum Canadense, is also called Canada Wild Ginger and Canadian Snakeroot, is native to forests in eastern North America. Native Americans use the roots as a seasoning as well as a medicinal herb to treat dysentery, digestive problems, swollen breasts, cough, and colds, typhus, scarlet fever, nerves, sore throat, cramps, earache, headache, convulsions, asthma, tuberculosis, urinary disorders and venereal disease. Rosemary is another staple for smudges. Interestingly enough, you can use both the root and the plant of rosemary–and they have different qualities. The rosemary stalks burn wonderfully in a smudge.
